Why choose wooden toys? We believe they are great for many reasons:
- They are made from a sustainable resource. Our toys are
made from wood sourced from sustainable managed forests. When a tree is
cut down to make one of our products, another comes to
maturity.
- The raw material for plastic is oil. Choosing wood over oil
spares a valuable and finite resouce.
- They are more durable. They last longer. Even when they
break, wood is easily repared. Think of granny's toy box. What toys
have survived the generations? Inevitably you'll find many wooden toys
- testament to their longevity.
- They tend to sell themselves on the merits of their
educational, developmental and play value rather than on licensing,
brading and merchandising. They naturally hold the interest of a child
longer.
- The first toys were made from wood. According to Wikipedia,
wooden
spinning tops are among the oldest recognizable toys
having been found at archaeological sites around the world. There are
long established traditions in wooden toy making across Scandanavia and
western Europe. Traditional wooden toys have survived generations
because they work and they play important roles in
early childhood including development of motor skills,
hand eye-coordination and spatial
awareness.
We have put together a carefully selected range of items which are the
product of many years of tradition and which meet the developmental and
play needs of early childhood.
We've recently made some changes to the site. We think it looks a bit
better and we hope it makes finding things a little easier. Tell us
what you think by leaving a comment on this blog post!
We've been busy adding loads of new products. Why not take a look at our new fire fighting toys from Le Toy Van or our new range of kids' room decor items.
